In this month’s episode of our ‘Did you know’ mini-series, we bring to you Blend Network founder and CEO Yann Murciano so you can get to know a little more about the people behind the platform that you and hundreds of other investors like you trust to invest money with.
Before founding Blend Network, Yann was global head of metals trading at Morgan Stanley. He spent a decade understanding and managing risk as a trader, first trading currencies, then gold and then metals. Yann’s quasi-obsession with risk management is instilled to the lending team at Blend Network; ‘if we don’t understand the risk, we don’t lend’ is our holy slogan. And this is how we have managed to build an enviable track-record of 10%+ return p.a. and 0 loss to our lenders as of today 16 April 2021. The late Emilio Botin, Santander Group Executive Chairman until his death in 2014, is one of Yann’s favourite all-time bankers. Yann believes that Mr. Botin’s vision defined banking and made it what it is today. Mr. Botin’s speech to the 2008 Euromoney awards dinner, where Santander was named best global bank, has gone down in banking folklore. Mr. Botin revelled as a commercial lender from northern Spain picking up the biggest prize in banking in front of the big investment banking-dominated institutions of bigger and richer countries, especially UK and the US. Alluding to a poem by colonial-era British poet Rudyard Kipling, the late Santander executive chairman declared: ‘If you don’t fully understand an instrument, don’t buy it. If you would not buy a specific product for yourself, don’t try to sell it. If you do not know your customers very well, don’t lend them any money. If you do these three things, you will be a better banker, my son.’ This is also how Yann likes to run Blend Network: if we don’t understand the risk, we don’t lend.
You can also be a lender along with our hundreds of other investors. Keep an eye on the new loans at www.blendnetwork.com and start lending today.
Your capital is at risk if you lend to businesses. P2P lending is not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. Investments are illiquid (the inability to sell assets quickly or without substantial loss in value). Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.
